UC Environmental Stewards, a statewide UC ANR program, works with over 70 partner organizations to promote environmental literacy and stewardship through discovery and action. Its newest certification program, UC Climate Stewards, builds statewide capacity to advance climate goals and improve ecosystem resilience by improving public access to climate science and fostering local communities of practice. In the program’s first two years, 494 Climate Stewards participants completed the core 40-hour course. Collectively, these participants are expected to reduce carbon emissions by 1,412.84 tons of CO2 per year (extrapolated from Cordero et al., 2020). The program also brought on its first instructor, who began her journey as a California Climate Action Corps fellow. Her story illustrates the multiplying impacts of UC Climate Stewards.
