Over the past few years, UC Davis Health implemented several water conservation measures that have saved over 12 million gallons per year. UC Davis Health successfully opened three new bike shelters, at two locations. The health system also signed a contract with Sacramento Regional Transit District (to provide a connection from Elk Grove to the medical center). The bus has been ordered, and service will begin in fall of 2023.

UC Davis Health continued to be impacted by COVID-19 supply chain disruptions, preventing many food vendors from providing sustainable products. However, strategically planning menus through a direct relationship with local farmers allowed UC Davis Health to increase procurement of organic fruit and vegetables.

Finally, the health system is making strides with waste diversion. Through the partnership with Stryker Sustainability, efforts yielded 35,866 medical devices collected, 19,152 pounds of waste collected, 23,503 pounds of waste diverted from landfills and $5,746 of costs avoided by participating in successful medical device reprocessing collections.

UC Davis Health recently turned off irrigation to many lawn areas and is developing a long-term plan to replace several lawns with drought-tolerant landscaping. Finally, UC Davis Health is converting landscape irrigation controllers to smart weather-based controllers.
